ABORTION

We offer clients a warm and private office setting for your comfort and confidentiality. Arrangements can be made for you to be the only person in the office except for the physician and the necessary office staff. We have a private waiting area for you and your companion, and you will recover in a quiet private area. Eligibility for the procedure is determined by the ultrasound dating (between 6 and 13 weeks pregnancy), medical history, and the physician.

The office visit begins with first paying the necessary fee (s). All fees include counseling, labs, local anesthesia, and the physician fee. Additional fees may be charged for RhoGam, fibroids, twins, and women over the weight criteria. If the procedure cannot be done, all of your money will be returned except for the cost of the ultrasound. You must complete a medical history form answering all questions truthfully to the best of your ability. An ultrasound will be performed and if you meet the procedure criteria, you will meet privately with a counselor who will answer any of your questions and review your medical history. Birth control options will be discussed and you may receive a pack of birth control pills before leaving the office.

The medical staff will check your vital signs, hemoglobin (blood count), and Rh blood type. The physician or nurse practioner will perform a complete physical exam and also review your medical history. You will be offered medication for pelvic discomfort (Motrin) and a medication for relaxation (Valium). We will allow you time for the medicines to work before starting the procedure.

The procedure begins with you on an exam table set up like a normal pap smear. A female assistant will be present to assist the physician and we can provide a counselor to assist you with your emotional comfort. A speculum will be placed and the vagina will be cleaned with Betadine to rid it of germs. Lidocaine is injected into the cervix to numb the cervix and prevent some discomfort. The cervix will be gently dilated (opened) to allow a suction tube into the uterus. You may experience some cramping during this portion of the procedure that should last only a minute or two. A suction tube is introduced into the uterus and the pregnancy is removed. The procedure takes less than about six minutes. The cramping will decrease after the procedure is complete.

After the procedure, you will rest for a few  minutes. You will be encouraged to take a snack and juice at this time. We will review the discharge instructions with you and provide the appropriate prescriptions and necessary medications.

No procedure will be performed unless you have someone present to drive you home. You will not be allowed to walk, take a bus home, or drive a car for 2 days.
